I don't really know Doug, but I know of him-- here's Doug's scoop:

"I am not sure if you know me or not (I am not sure if thinking you might know me makes me conceited or not). Anyway I went to Gull Lake (class of 96) and was a classmate of your sister's (your mother was my 6th grade math teacher as well). Anyway, now I am living in Oakland, California pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley (graduated U of M in Computer Engineering in 2001). I stumbled across your page when I was procrastinating and "googled" Dale Winling's name (close friend). I remember him telling me about your comic. I looked at it for a while and I must say it is hilarious. Top notch stuff. Thanks for the smiles and keep up the good work! Now I am depressed because I am not a talented artist......"
